A flower girl is a member of a bridal party. She usually walks in front of the bride at the beginning of the wedding ceremony, often carrying a small bouquet or scattering flower petals on her way down the aisle, in preparation for the bride's big entrance.
Flower girls are usually closely associated with either the bride or groom's family. Often, there will be more than one flower girl in the bridal party. The most popular age group for flower girls is between 2 and 8 years of age.
Flower girls are often dressed in a pretty white or ivory dress, or a dress that compliments the colour scheme of the rest of the bridal party (Eg bridesmaids). They usually carry a small bouquet or a flower girl basket that contains flower petals to scatter down the aisle. Flower girl halos or flower girl tiaras are popular hair accessories for flower girls.
A flower girl is often accompanied down the aisle by a page boy or ring bearer, who is usually dressed in a suit to match the groom and groomsmen in the wedding party. Often the page boy will wear an acccessory such as a tie, that matches a colour that the flower girl is wearing. If the flower girl or page boy are quite young (eg 2 - 4 years of age) often a bridesmaid, junior bridesmaid, mother of the bride or mother of the groom will accompany them as they make their entrance, as the experience can be overwhelming for a very young child.
